Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Substantial ATC System Failure
Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a major air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.
Every arrival and departure were suspended because of an systems problem that arose around 08:30.
Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.
Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays
A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
That said, considerable delays are anticipated to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.
An airport representative had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Source of the Issue
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.
Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are managed.
