Catherine's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her customary Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
